According to a recent report by AnandTech, the new browser from Mozilla dubbed Quantum, features an up to 2x speed increase in comparison to its predecessor Firefox 52. This impressive leap in performance is allegedly achieved through the implementation of a new CSS engine, StyleCV, and a parallelization of processes.

In terms of compatibility, early versions of the Quantum browser have not been entirely smooth sailing for some. Initially, version 57 had issues with YouTube and other frequent website hang-ups. However, these problems prompted Mozilla to rapidly release timely updates, fixing the bugs for consumers eager to use the Quantum browser.

AnandTech criticized the Quantum browser’s use of significant system resources, for instance, consuming 220 MB of RAM when other web browsers like Google Chrome and Vivaldi utilize a mere 70 MB. However, Mozilla has addressed this concern by implementing improvements that reduce memory consumption and improve system stability.

The enhancements in speed and efficiency make Quantum a practical alternative in terms of web browsing. However, certain unique features, such as Pocket integration and Firefox Sync, are set to be exclusive to Firefox. Mozilla has also confirmed that its goal with Quantum is to blur the line between a web browser and a traditional operating system, causing comparisons with popular OS such as Chrome OS.

Overall, Quantum’s performance is impressive, and it sets the tone for the rest of the technology world as industry standards continue to evolve. Despite criticisms in terms performance and compatibility, Mozilla’s efforts to continually improve upon their product adds context to a potential shift towards a Google Chrome and Firefox Quantum dominated market share. With upcoming improvements to Quantum planned for 2018, the future looks bright for the new County line of web browser products.
