Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has reached an agreement to buy startup Wiz for $1.2 billion as part of the company’s effort to expand its cloud computing services. Wiz will continue its operations as an independent subsidiary and will retain its Israel-based employees, although Google CEO Sundar Pichai and his team is expected to move to various functions and lead their upcoming cloud service. The acquisition would allow Google to gain access to Wiz’s technology, which helps large enterprises more easily and securely understand their cloud environments. The move aligns with Alphabet’s efforts to simplify its corporate structure and focus more on its key businesses, including media and advertising, cloud computing, and life sciences.
