Lucy’s New York Bar Renovation: Designing a Nod to the Past in Flamingo Pink and Teal Green

In The Style Section: Lucy’s Revives Old Downtown Vibe in Its Renovated Bar
On the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Lucy’s, an upscale cocktail bar, has been revamped and restored to its original 1930s feel by the interior design firm Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. The updated space has new flooring and paneling, a restored brick facade, a green-tile flooring reception area, new leather parlor chairs, and brass railings, and includes remaining original features like marble-topped bars and mirrored back bars. The renovation is part of a larger trend of retrofitting New York City’s latest hot spots with an old-school vibe. The new space is reminiscent of the bar’s past as Magoo’s and continues the Lucy’s tradition of serving only beer and spirits with an emphasis on bourbon and rye. Lucy’s thanked Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and builder Tipping Constructors for their work in reviving the space’s character and restoring it to its former glory. The venue’s new talent development program will feature live performances and perpetuate the Legend of the Green Door, a NOLA-style secret-spot element. Lucy’s, which recently extended its opening hours to serve from 5pm to midnight Monday to Wednesday, 5pm to 2am Thursday to Saturday, and 4pm to 10pm on Sunday, has also announced plans to introduce its own absinthes, the first new brand in the U.S. in over a century.
